Philly Horror Host
Boils and Ghouls and all manner of Monsters, welcome to the world of JOSH WITCHENS! I am a Philly-based horror movie host, paranormal historian, author of books including Haunted History of Philadelphia, and a horror movie fan and trivia nerd. I began hosting horror movies in podcast form with Hitchens on Horror.

However, I have become passionate about hosting horror movies for live audiences, and in March 2024 I began a monthly show at The Painted Mug Cafe in South Philly. In March 2025 I transferred my show to Starr Garden Recreation Center in the heart of Philadelphia, where I continue MONDAY MACABRE monthly, with free admission to all audiences!

In doing this work, I am standing on the shoulders of giants in Philly horror hosting. Beginning with John Zacherley aka Roland in the 1950s and beyond, to Dr. Shock in the 1970s, Stella of Saturday Night Dead in the 1980s, and Jackie Blood in the present day - I am honored to continue Philadelphia's rich participation in the art of horror hosting.
The main difference in my work as a horror host is that I am committed to doing my shows live with an audience in the room, all of us watching the movies together. Horror creates community like no other genre of film, and the collective experience of learning about and watching horror movies, both wonderfully bad and amazingly excellent, is at the core of my work. Come join me, in the night, in the dark, for a very fun time!
